Gur-Amir Mausoleum

Gur - Amir Mausoleum is one the most beautiful monuments in Samarkand. Was built by Amir Timur after the sudden death of Muhammad Sultan Tamerlane's heir. It is famous for its simplicity of construction and fluted dome. Later the mausoleum became the family crypt for Timur's dynasty.

Ulugbek Observatory

Ulugbek's observatory is considered by scholars one of the finest observatories in the Islamic world. It became an important center for astronomical study and at its peak had between 60 and 70 astronomers working there. Discoveries and research conducted at Ulug Bek's Observatory were very important at the time as astronomers could predict eclipses and calculate the hour of the rising sun and altitude of a celestial body.

Shahi-i-Zinda Necropolis

The name Shah-i-Zinda (meaning "The living king") is connected with the legend that Kusam ibn Abbas, the cousin of the prophet Muhammad. The Necropolis is considered a gem of Samarkand city from the architectural point. because it infuses all the traditional styles used in decoration like mosaics, majolica and terracotta.

Bib-Khanum In the 15th century was one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in the Islamic world. After Timur's campaign from India in 1399 Timur decided to build his most ambitious project the biggest mosque in his new capital, Samarkand.
