You hike from the Aman Kutan gorge up over the Tahtakaracha pass across the Zarafshan range, and down into the Kashkadarya valley — walnut groves, alpine meadows and a real pass crossing. Your vehicle meets you on the far side.

Then a guided tour of Shahrisabz, Amir Timur's home town: the colossal Ak-Saray palace ruins, the Dorut Tilavat complex with the Kok Gumbaz mosque, and the crypt Timur built for himself. A long day, and a big reward.

How hard is the hike?
It is a genuine mountain hike — around 12–14 km over about five hours, climbing to the Tahtakaracha pass and down the far side. No technical climbing, but a real ascent, so a reasonable level of fitness and proper footwear are needed.
Do I carry my luggage over the pass?
No. You walk with a daypack only; your vehicle drives round and meets you on the Shahrisabz side with everything else. A local hiking guide walks the crossing with you.
What is in Shahrisabz?
